A Time To Reflect | Rope + Sails
As many of you know, Montrose Rope and Sail originally served the flourishing local fishing industry manufacturing ropes and hand-sewn sails that could withstand the harsh weather out at sea.
By 1940 rope making at our old premises on Bents Road had ceased as it was no longer feasible financially to produce by hand. As the Scottish fishing fleet diminished and industries changed, our company had to adapt to change to survive and the hand manufacturing and sewing of products still continued.
Our focus on quality, hand manufactured products still continues today. Although we no longer manufacture rope, our hand manufacturing sewing skills have been passed down through the generations and adapted in some places to introduce newer technology. Take a look through some of our pictures below which show the old rope and net making and equipment used in the past.
Over on our facebook page we’ve been asking our followers if they have any memories of Montrose Rope and Sail. Last week we had a great response and many of our customers, followers and old staff shared their memories of ‘The Old Ropey’ with us.
